Dry Skin Care: Helpful Solutions

Dry skin care should be as gentle as possible, should not irritate and damage skin.

If your skin is dry, you most likely have damages in skin’s matrix (intracellular matrix) – the substance between the cells - which causes water loss.

To help to solve this problem, apply the following rules.

Dry Skin Care Regimen

  • Use products for dry skin without irritating ingredients such as alcohol, menthol, camphor, peppermint, essential oils, lime, lemon, sodium lauryl sulfate.
  •

  • If cleansers you use still dry and irritate your skin, stop using and replace them. Avoid soaps: they contain alkali which dries skin even more.
  •

  • Skip washing face with water before going out especially if it is cold outside. Instead clean it with warm extra virgin olive oil, jojoba oil, almond oil, or canola oil.

Use a rich emollient cream which doesn't contain water.
  •

  • Antioxidants in products will help to fight skin damaging free radicals. Reapply a moisturizer through out the day if needed.
  •

  • Also look for an emollient moisturizer which contains lipids, cholesterol, glycerides, lecithin, glycerol, lanolin, ceramids, plant oils.
  •

  • Use plant oils such as olive oil, canola oil, almond oil, jojoba oil which are high in beneficial for dry skin linoleic acid.
  •

  • Exfoliate your skin gently with AHA (Glycolic Acid)or BHA (Sylicilic Acid) exfoliants.
  •

  • Use sun screen with SPF 30 every day.
  •

  • If you live in climate with low humidity, you may consider to use a humidifier at home. Hot or cold temperature is also damaging for skin as well as air from heaters and air conditioners.

Put a container with water close to your heater, it also helps to humidify the air. Or use a portable humidifier:

  •

  • Take short showers with comfortable water temperature: not too hot or cold. Avoid taking a long bath: as it could dry your skin even more.
  •

  • Apply an emollient moisturizer, plant oils such as extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter.
  •

  • Also check your diet. Some foods can cause skin irritation and dryness.

Home Remedies For Dry Skin Care

Cleanser With A Plant Oil

An excellent method to clean and nourish dry skin is doing it with a plant oil cleanser which you can prepare yourself.

1-2 teaspoons of warm extra virgin olive oil, jojoba oil, almond oil, peach oil or canola oil. Warm oil on steam or stove in a small container. Generously apply it on face and neck with a cotton ball. In about 5 minutes, remove oil with a face tissue or a cotton ball damped in cold green tea, rose potion, mineral water, or clean water.

Cleanser With Egg Yolk

Mix 1 egg yolk with 1-2 teaspoons of a plant oil, and 1-2 teaspoons of a fruit juice, such as grape juice. Apply it on clean dry skin with a cotton ball with 2-3 layers. In approximately 5 minutes, wash it off with cool water.

After that, apply a moisturizer. It is good for skin to do this procedure time to time.

Cleanser With Sour Cream

It is very good to clean dry skin with sour cream. Apply room-temperature sour cream with a thick layer on face and neck. Repeat application one more time, then remove all with a dry cotton ball, and apply your favorite moisturizer.

You can also add 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt in sour cream which provides a skin tone effect.

Masks with egg yolk and dairy are very good for dry skin, as well.

Some masks with vegetables, such as cucumber mask, are also very helpful for dry skin.
